Project Description
Project Overview: Located in the Taklamakan Desert, north of the Tarim Basin in Xinjiang, this project marks China Air Separation’s first turnkey air separation project for the Northwest Oilfield Branch of Sinopec. The plant employs a deep-cold air separation process for nitrogen production, with a designed capacity of 400,000 cubic meters of nitrogen per day and a nitrogen purity level reaching 99.999%. Groundbreaking for the project took place in March 2021, and it successfully started up on its first attempt in March 2022, smoothly delivering nitrogen to external customers.
The product’s performance parameters meet or exceed the design specifications, and its energy consumption per unit of output has reached an industry-leading level. This provides a new, low-cost surface support model—“centralized nitrogen production, medium-pressure pipeline transportation, and high-pressure gas injection”—for large-scale nitrogen-injection development in oilfields, contributing China National Machinery Industry Corporation’s strength to boosting oil production, promoting green and low-carbon development, and ensuring sustainable growth in the northwest oilfields.
