Driven by the global energy transition and the "dual-carbon" goals, green ammonia has emerged as a key development direction in the fields of new energy and clean fuels, bringing both new opportunities and challenges to the industrial chain. From September 10 to 12, the 12th China Synthetic Ammonia and Downstream Industries Symposium 2025 was held in Nanjing. Representatives from industry associations and various enterprises engaged in an in-depth exchange on topics including energy policies, technological pathways, and market prospects.

At the meeting, Zhang Xiaodong, General Manager of the Company’s Market Development Center, delivered a keynote speech titled “Current Status and Trends in Storage and Transportation Facilities Supporting Green Ammonia Projects.” In his presentation, he systematically shared information on the types of storage and transportation facilities supporting liquid ammonia and provided insights into future industry trends. During his keynote speech, Zhang Xiaodong noted that green ammonia, as a zero-carbon energy carrier and chemical feedstock, relies crucially on the development of its storage and transportation infrastructure to enable large-scale applications. Currently, domestic receiving stations have storage capacities ranging from 10,000 m³ to 50,000 m³, with construction periods typically lasting around three years—comprising one year for project preparation and two years for construction. Given the rapid development of the ammonia-hydrogen industry and the fast-growing trend in international trade of liquid ammonia, China will need larger-scale and more numerous coastal receiving terminals to meet the demands of international trade in ammonia-based energy.

Green ammonia production relies on renewable energy sources such as wind and photovoltaic power. Green hydrogen is produced via water electrolysis, and renewable electricity is used to separate nitrogen from the air. Finally, a dynamic ammonia synthesis process converts the hydrogen and nitrogen into green synthetic ammonia. In this zero-carbon industrial chain—“green electricity—green hydrogen—green ammonia”—the air separation unit constructed by the company continuously and reliably supplies qualified nitrogen gas, thereby providing a solid foundation for this entire chain.
