The China Environmental Protection Federation Science and Technology Progress Award is a nationally recognized, authoritative environmental technology award that has been filed with the Office of National Science and Technology Awards. After years of development, this award—thanks to its rigorous six-stage review process, an esteemed panel of expert reviewers, and stringent evaluation criteria focusing on technological innovation and practical industrial applicability—has become one of the most influential science and technology awards in China’s ecological and environmental protection field. The project’s receipt of the First Prize underscores China Air Separation’s outstanding contributions and leading position in the field of energy and environmental protection technology.

Against the backdrop of severe global climate change and the advancement of the “dual-carbon” goals, the efficient utilization of carbon-based resources is key to addressing the challenge of carbon emissions and achieving artificial carbon cycling. The project team has integrated cutting-edge technologies from multiple fields to overcome the core challenges of targeted activation and high-efficiency conversion of carbon-based molecules, achieving three major breakthroughs: First, low-energy consumption activation of CO₂ followed by its conversion into high-value-added products; second, highly selective conversion of CO₂ into high-value fuels and other products; and third, high-value utilization of complex organic hazardous wastes.

As a core participating entity, China Air Separation leverages multiple research platforms—including the Zhejiang Province Air Separation Low-Temperature and Environmental Protection Research & Development Center and the Hangzhou Engineering Research Center for Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS)—to deeply cultivate the carbon dioxide market. It takes the lead in undertaking key provincial R&D projects, driving technological innovation and industrialization in the efficient utilization of carbon-based resources.

The achievements of this award-winning project are of great significance for optimizing the energy structure and promoting a green, low-carbon transformation of industries, providing critical technological support for reaching peak carbon emissions and achieving carbon neutrality. In the future, China Air Separation will work closely with its partners to deepen research and development efforts, accelerate the commercialization and application of more green and low-carbon technologies, and continue to contribute the strength of a central enterprise to protecting the ecological environment and driving green, low-carbon development.
